The Magical Properties of Oak Wood
The mighty Oak, longest lived of all trees that root from the earth's fertile soil, is widely known as the most magical, powerful, and sacred of woods. Air, Fire, Water, Earth--Wood is the fifth element; it is the very source for all things living, providing them suppliments and oxygen to breath and prosper. And wood, in itself, is considered to be alive with mind, spirit, will, and emotion.
Also called Duir or Dwyr, meaning 'Druid' or 'Wizard,' oak reigns supreme for wandcrafting and wielding magical items. Its deep grains and majestic strength, but also its ability to withstand the forces of time, earns it the title of 'Father Wood'. It has been deemed many names over the centuries, all singing its praise and worshiping its wisdom and supremacy. For Druids, it is often refered to as 'Wizard Wood'.
From an astronomical aspect, oak is linked to the constellation Leo, holding the power to summon lightning. And Leo, ruled by the sun, gifts the wood its source of light and life, empowering it with the strength of fire. The midsummer fire is always oak, as well as the need fire, which is always kindled in an oak log. Steming from these supernatural forces, comes the magic of protection, endurance, kingship, authority, power, wisdom, fertility, and abundance.
The Dryad, or Tree Guardian
The Dryad, spirit of the wood, is thought to be a living creature bound to an oak tree, growing with it, and protecting it from harm. In mythology, it is known as a 'Wood Nymph' or 'Tree Guardian'. It is believed to be part of the tree's consciousness, nurturing and guiding the oak towards strength and wisdom. They live in harmony with the sunlight, wind and rain, harvesting the elements whilst guarding the tree with an eternal bond; it is believed that the Dryad dies only when the tree has perished.
When a branch has fallen, or is pruned from the oak, so goes a piece of the Dryad's spirit. It's magic is known to be awoken by enchantment when the branch is crafted into a wand or instrument--hence supplying the witch or wizard with a unique and rare source of power. Many tales have been told of the wood nymph, mainly found in literature or ancient scripts. It is encouraged to read of their existance, and learn their history. One such tale was written by a Danish author, Hans Christian Anderson. It is titled, 'The Dryad.' For those interested, please visit the story by taping thy wand on the elf below.
Wizard Wood Wands™
Established in 962 B.C., our ancestors have been crafting the finest magic wands for witches and wizards throughout the centuries, each generation passing along its wisdom and mastery skills. Today, we strive to uphold the ancient traditions, treating each wand as an individual, and embedding our knowledge of the craft into each and every one we cut. No two are ever alike, making each wand a rare and special piece of magic. We never duplicate, nor do we use weak woods as a substitute. All of our wands are made from the finest oak and natural woods, hand selected from the forest of Elveshire, and occasionally the dark woods of Dravenscull.
